Introduction The suburb of Arcon Park consists of approximately 1,500 households but we have many problems which need urgent attention. These can be categorized into security issues and community issues. This web site has been built by the Arcon Park Residents Association (APRA) to update our residents on the actions required and those actions that are being implemented with regard to these issues. This front page is an introduction so please click the relevant buttons on the navigational menus to find more specific details on these two topics. Many of our long standing residents will remember when Arcon Park was a crime free area. They will also remember when our street lights worked, our roads were maintained and many other positives which established this as one of Vereeniging’s premier suburbs. This is no longer the case. We now have the fifth highest crime rate out of 25 Vereeniging suburbs. Our roads are a disgrace, our suburb is in darkness and our properties are under-valued as a result. The vision for Arcon Park is to restore this area to the standards that we once enjoyed and put a halt to the backward slide that is so visible. The vision is to reclaim the streets for the residents. The vision is to restore Arcon Park to its premier suburb status. Pie in the sky? No! This is a reality and the restoration process is already underway. In just three months, over 500 residents have pledged their support to this project by signing R35 monthly debit orders. Why? Because they have had enough. They sense that things will only get worse if we do not act now. “Project Arcon Park” starts with a R1,000,000 plan to ring fence the suburbs 4 km boundaries. Phase one begins on the 19th of September with a 1.8km, six foot high diamond razor wire fence along the suburb’s boundary with the R59 highway. Subsequent phases will be the building of palisades along where Arcon Park borders the old Johannesburg road and Ring road. The completion of the fencing project will be securing the back of all homes on Zea Avenue. Access to Arcon Park, will, on completion of this project, be restricted to four road entrances. The plan is then to contract one security company to provide 24 hour control at the access points as well as perimeter and street patrols. This project will take time. The primary aim is to halt the easy access and exit of criminals who see us as a soft target. Our own security and that of our families, is not negotiable. With the complete support of the community, it will happen quicker. We appeal to all residents to buy into this vision for Arcon Park and support this initiative. So far, an enthusiastic response by our residents, has resulted in one third of all households signing up. In order to spread the cost-load wide, we need the support of all our residents. The role of the Arcon Park Resident’s Association is not limited to security alone. Committee members have been allocated portfolios to tackle our municipality over the non-delivery of services into our area. We all pay our rates and see none of that money being returned. Our infrastructure is crumbling and will collapse very shortly without our council’s commitment towards inward investment. We will not stand by and watch this happen. Our council is bankrupt due to mismanagement and corruption. Inevitably, Arcon Park will need to take matters into its own hands while Emfuleni municipality fiddles. This could mean the use of private contractors to get the job done. However, we must first complete a due process with Emfuleni to deliver on their responsibilities.
